Presented by The Scarlet Letter Press & Gallery:
This event is not to be missed! For the first time in Salem, Brenda Sullivan of The Gravestone Girls will share her expansive knowledge of historic gravestone artwork and grave rubbings!
The first hour will include an informal talk about New England cemetery history, gravestone artwork and symbolism. Feel free to bring your questions and curiosities about the local stone grave markers in the “Oldest Cemetery in Salem” – Old Burying Point in on Charter Street.
The second hour Brenda will discuss gravestone rubbing – what is ok and what is not ok in local historic cemeteries. You will have an opportunity to create your own small foil rubbing based upon actual grave symbols that Brenda has cast with compassion and care for the stones she admires and respects. (All materials included)
Handmade gravestone castings in all shapes and sizes will be on hand for purchase by The Gravestone Girls at the close of the workshop. www.gravestonegirls.com
**Please plan on arriving 15 minutes early to find a seat and get comfortable. Salem is very busy in October with limited parking. Please plan ahead to avoid disruption during the engagement. Thank you!**
